The Game of Thaumatrope published in Paris by Mauclair-Dacier
(1891-1903).
Original box with a great label containing 4 (of 12) original Thaumatrope disks
in excellent condition.
The Thaumatropes were the very first optical toy, sold around 1825 by Dr Paris
in London, to use the persistence of vision principle. Although here it is not
use to create movement, this is a very important principle as its discovery
eventually led to the Cinema!
Very bright chromolithography printing, the box is
10 cm x 16.5 cm x 2.2 cm or 4" x 6 1/2" x 7/8", the disks are 7.6 cm or 3" in
diameter.
